Description:
The work consists of a downloadable client, search engine and a 3D browser environment.

The user is able to input search term requests directly into the browser environment by typing a request after the flashing cursor on the screen. This activates a web spider agent that hunts the Internet searching for material matches associated with the search request.

Once matches are found the returned material is represented in the 3D environment.

 

The user can decide to display the results as either the URLs, web page text or the meta tags; associated with the search. The returned search material is endowed with physical behavioural characteristics (entropy, repulsion and attraction) which allow emergent interaction to occur between different represented search term results. The resultant constellations of form are emergent, fluid and unpredictable.

 

It is possible for several searches to co-exist in the virtual environment simultaneously allowing for a spatio/temporal overlaying of search term requests within the same environment.

 

New search requests can be made by the user at any time. Once the search results are reconstituted in the environment the user can interact with the material by navigating the3D environment, pausing and freezing individual search terms and deleting individual search terms.

RECONNOITRE HELP:

Buttons:

• Search - type a search term request where the flashing Cursor appears on the screen and hit the return key. Searches may be single words or phrases. To create a new search click the search button, and the cursor will appear centre screen. Search result nodes will emerge after a slight delay depending on the speed of your internet connection.
• Pause - pauses dynamics and decay of selected search term.
• Delete - deletes selected search term. Metatags - displays meta description tags from the web pages of the search results.
• Text - displays text fragments from the search results. URL - displays URL addresses associated with the search results.
• Tags - displays HTML fragments embedded within search results.
• Reset - resets navigation.
• Clear - clears the environment

 

Navigation:

Move forward or backward by clicking and dragging the right mouse button.

• Move left, right, up or down by clicking and dragging the left mouse button.
• To prevent disorientation in the environment navigation is constrained within a bounding cone.

 

Scaling:

Change the scale of the search results, by right clicking and dragging on a blue search term.

• Dragging left and right causes the distance between results to change.
• Dragging up and down changes the scale of the text.
